This tutorial is mainly for my students at The Norwegian Academy of Music but everyone is welcome. Its not a complete tutorial, its intended as a support for the students at the academy, but it can be used as a self study. If you have any comments or suggestions please e-mail me.
I prefer positive an constructive comments :-) after all I'm doing this for free (its not a part of my work at the academy to produce tutorials on the internet) .

Mats Claesson`s short introduction to Battery 2.

These pages work with Explorer 6.0 or higher.

This is all about the BASIC programming of Battery 2, how to do it. NOTHING ELSE !
If you are one of those computer musicians that demands instant response, 1000 of "wicked techno sounds" by the press of a button, stay away , this is NOT for you.

Introduction.
This guide will give you most of the basics of how to program Battery 2.
The guide has eight videos, 25 Mb all in all. You really need a broadband connection to use this guide. These pages work with Explorer 6.0 or higher.

This tutorial is mainly for my students at the academy. This text and the videos is just a part of what we do at the lessons....there is more going on at the lectures.....( I hope).

Battery is a relatively simple to program!
Battery is a sample player program. That means it plays back pre recorded sounds. Some of us (like me) still call this a "drum machine". Battery contains quite a few sound manipulating features like an individually envelope a really god filter (lots of options) and a comprehensive modulation matrix. We won't go through all of this but I think you will get the general idea.

I use battery only with its built in Library. I seldom program Kits (a Kit is a ready to be played program). I may compile a kit of my own from other kits, but that's not happened very often. At the academy we have two extra libraries the Studio drums and the wonderful Synthetic Drums, both of them from Natives. Together with the libraries included they cover a wide selection of sounds for nearly all musical styles. The exception may be the orchestral and ethnic instruments, but then we have Vienna Symphonic library

Drums and percussion are maybe the instrument group that has the largest "ready to buy" library/programs around. I tend to use these libraries and programs a lot. If I do any programming of percussive sounds I do it in Reaktor which offers a far wider sound manipulation possibility that Battery

The videos are not heavily edited. They contains (to mention some) bad grammar, inconsistency, a terrible accent
( in the videos) and even some fault.

I really appreciate comments. I have gotten quite a few so far. I appreciate to hear from you all. Up to now only 10% gives feedback.
Its a bit....sad. An e- mail from you is the only "payment" I would like. So please send an e-mail and tell me that you where looking at these pages (and maybe some comments?). And wicked techno sounds-guys. I told you, this is not what you are looking for :-)

I HAVE read the text above, please take me to the tutorial.
